Marianne Faithfull war mal eine Verführerin mit Engelsgesicht die mit Mick Jagger, Keith Richards und Brian Jones ins Bett ging. Geboren am 29. Dezember 1946 in Hampstead, London, als Tochter eines Literatur-Professors und einer österreichischen Baronesse, verwandelte sie sich bald von einer Pop-Nixe in eine heroinsüchtige Femme fatale. Ihre Biografie liest sich teilweise wie die von Nico, der Sängerin der Band Velvet Underground. Nach Fehlgeburt und Selbstmordversuch glitt Marianne aus ihrer Isolation mit dem Album Broken English (1979). Mit nunmehr brüchiger, rauher Grabesstimme, "wie fünf Rémy Martin und zwei Schachteln Zigaretten zuviel" (Billboard), grantete sie gegen das System und röchelte Liebesgedichte. Theater und Film gehör(t)en zu ihren weiteren Aktivitäten.
Ihre früheren Lieder sind allesamt Klassiker geworden.

Wenn ein Verrückter namens Chapman hätte nicht, vor 25 Jahren, John Lennon umgebracht, würde der ex-Beatle noch unter uns weilen.
